Międzynarodowe warsztaty “Hypernetworks, network dynamics, influence on networks: current tendency in social research”

grudzień 12th, 2011 by admin

Drodzy Państwo,
.
Serdecznie zapraszamy do udziały w warsztacie: “Hypernetworks, network dynamics, influence on networks: current tendency in social research”, która odbędzię się się w dniach 13-14 grudnia w Warszawie. Organizatorem konterencji są ASSYST Coordination Action (Prof. Jeffrey Johnson) wraz z Instytutem Studiów Społecznych, UW (Prof. Andrzej Nowak). Program do pobrania: warsawworkshop_agenda-2

.

Dear Sir/Madam,
.
We would like to invite you to participate in a workshop: “Hypernetworks, network dynamics, influence on networks: current tendency in social research”  organised in Warsaw on 13th – 14th of December 2011 by ASSYST Coordination Action (Prof. Jeffrey Johnson) and the Institute for Social Studies, University of Warsaw (Prof. Andrzej Nowak).
.
The aim of the workshop is identifying the methodological possibilities offered by new network theories. Network models of social and cognitive structures allow for precise description of processes that otherwise could only be a subject of qualitative study. It is therefore crucial that sociological and psychological theories be formulated in a form of sets of relations that can easily be transformed to a network model.  On the other hand, lately many social models are being developed by physicists and engineers who make new operationalizations of known social phenomena that often contradict or simply do not take into account traditional sociological or psychological approaches. Again it is very important to find a common ground and a mutually understandable language so that the computational models be informed by empirical findings and social theories.
.
During the workshop different approaches to social networks will be presented with the emphasis put on hypernetworks. In a hypernetwork the edges are not limited to only two vertices that makes them a perfect tool for studying groups and communities, whose internal structure does not need to be precisely defined. Finding the “soft” social measures that could be used to describe hyperlinks will be one of the main themes of the workshop. Another kind of network models closely related to social phenomena are ICT mediated social networks. Different approaches both from statistical physics and social science will be presented during the lectures and will be a subject for discussion during the panel sessions.
.
The coordination action ASSYST (coordinator: Jeff Johnson) is funded from the FET Proactive initiative Science of Complex Systems for Socially Intelligent ICT (COSI-ICT). The COSI-ICT programme has four integrated projects and ASSYST. The work packages of ASSYST are closely aligned with the activities of the Complex Systems Society.
.
To confirm your attendance or if you have any questions  please reply to Michał Ziembowicz (ziembowicz@gmail.com) with CC to Agata Zabłocka-Bursa (agata_zablocka@wp.pl)

Yours Sincerely
.
